FiddleCakes- Bakery, Cafe, Coffee

On Valentine's Day, my sweet boy surprised me by taking me to brunch at Fiddle Cakes in Nashville (8th Ave). I knew they offered a lot of GF options, but I was so impressed by the variety.

There was an entire selection of gluten free pastries on display (cookies, scones, biscuits, cakes).

They bake their own GF bread that was unreal. Any sandwich or panini could be made with the bread.

They offer a few soups of the day and at least one is guaranteed to be GF.

It's such a cute little atmospheric place too! I had the curried chicken salad sandwich!

Chocolate bar!

I love chocolate if you haven't noticed already! I stumbled upon these Enjoy Life bars in Whole Foods. They're very tasty. Not only are they gluten free, but soy, nut & dairy-free as well. This brand makes a lot of other GF products.
Their website is enjoylifefoods.com

Here are the chocolate bars I tried. There is a milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and rice crisipy that I know of fore sure!

Valentines/Christmas/anything! Sugar cookies

Our annual sugar cookie decorating is one of my favorite Christmas traditions. It was sad to think I wouldn't be able to eat them this year! My mom found this gluten free sugar cookie mix. They taste EXACTLY like the normal recipe! The icing is just whipped up powdered sugar with a splash of milk. Easy! Use any cookie cutter shapes you want.

*I used a little gluten free flour on the dough to keep it from sticking to the counter or rolling pin

Best GF chocolate chip cookies!

I AM SERIOUS ABOUT THESE COOKIES.

Chocolate chip cookies are probably my favorite food! When I found out about my intolerance, my heart was saddened thinking I'd never eat another normal tasting cookie again. That was true until the day I made ...

Pamela's Chocolate Chunk Cookie Mix!

1. It's a mix!!! All you add is a stick of butter, one egg, and a splash of water! So easy.
2. I serve these to everyone. People are shocked that they're GF. My husband craves them.
3. Amazing as is, but sometimes I add extra chocolate chips & some chopped pecans!

I've seen Pamela's at Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Publix.

TRY IT ASAP!

GF iPhone apps

Here are two of my favorite GF iPhone applications: "Is That Gluten Free?" and "Gluten Free Registry". Sorry all non apple users... good excuse to go get one?! Health purposes.

"Is that GF?" allows the user to search items by category, brand, or ingredient to determine wether it contains gluten.

Screen cap example: click on one of several alphabetized categories for a list of registered GF brand options.

The "Gluten Free Registry" app is great, especially for travelers. It will search restaurants that offer gluten free menu's or specific allergen information by proximity.
You can click on each listing for more information.

Jason's Deli

I just had a marvelous gluten free experience at Jason's Deli. First of all, they offer a gluten free menu. Secondly, they use Udi's gluten free bread for their sandwiches! I had the chicken salad (made with almonds and pineapples- different, but delicious) on the gf bread! If you have a very serious gluten allergy the staff is willing to accommodate your needs. Thank
you Jason's!!

The best store bought GF bread

Of course there is nothing like a good ole homemade gluten-free loaf of bread, but who has time for that? The best bread that I have found so far is Udi's. It comes pre-sliced. It isn't too crumbly and has a great flavor. It is generally available in the frozen section at Publix, Whole Foods, Kroger, and Trader Joes. Udi's also sells bagels, pizza crusts, muffins, granola, and more. Honestly, I have only tried the bread and the granola!

* PS Jason's Deli offers Udi's bread!
